14 July 2010

We were again up ready to depart by 6.00am.

There was further wet weather driving from Hay across the Hay Plain to Wyalong, where we again fuelled up for the rest of the drive home.

We arrived in Mildura just before 9.00am and topped up with fuel.

We were happy to arrive safe and sound at home just before lunch time.

Our Queensland trip had come to an end.

Roll on October when we head off to Tasmania.

13 July 2010

We left the John Oxley Caravan Park around 7.45am to travel to Hay, where had booked a cabin.

We had some road works hold us up between Gilgandra and Dubbo, what was previously a nice clean white car, was then a dirty brown car. The rain and trucks we passed didn't help to keep the car clean.

The rain was hardest around Dubbo.

We again stopped at the Dish and took the opportunity to take some more photos.

We finally arrive at Hay around 6.00pm and booked into our cabin.

12 July 2010

We were up and ready to leave Arana Hills at 4.30am. We had agreed to be ready to go by 5.00am, but we both woke early and decided to leave earlier than intended.

Fortunately we had the Nuvi to guide us on our way and around an hour later were on the highway heading south.

We stopped in Warwick for some breakfast before stopping at the Queenslad/New South Wales border for the obligatory photo.

Lunch was consumed at Glen Inness, where we also fuelled up.

We finally arrived at the John Oxley Caravan Park in Coonabarabran late in the afternoon, pretty much exhausted.

11 July 2010

This morning one of our hosts woke up with a little hangover.

It was not hard to imagine why, after our late night sitting around the fire.

Late in the afternoon we packed the car, ready for the long trip back home.

10 July 2010

Another non-eventful day.

In the evening we lit the pot belly and sat outside by the fire.

9 July 2010

This morning we visited Old Petrie Village and the nearby Museum.

The village has around a dozen restored homes and stores which are being used as shops. oday was not a market day so all the shops were very quiet.

We then proceeded onto the Seaview Museum on Bribie Island.

Both museums were very well presented and provided good information on the history of the area.

We purchased fish'n'chips for lunch at Bongaree and ate them on the foreshore, feeding some of the local birdlife as well before returning to our accommodation in Arana Hills.

8 July 2010

Today we hit the local shops.

In the morning we went to the locak KMart where we bought shoes for both of us as well as some Christmas presents.

In the afternoon we went to Brookside Shopping Centre where I bought a new CASSIO watch for $90 (having been quoted $130 to service my old watch!), go figure!

We arrived back at our accommodation around 5.00pm.

7 July 2010

Our plans for today are to visit Esk and the Vivenhoe Dam.

We travelled to Esk via the Mount Glorious Road and we found three geocaches along the way. The two nearest to Mount Glorious Village are the two highest geocaches that we have found to date.

The road was very windy and very steep. However, once we were over the top and back on the flat the drive was very pleasant.

We arrived in Esk and as is our like, found the local bakery and bought some pies for lunch.

We took our pies to Lakeview Park, a few kilometers out of town, whewre there just happened to ba another geocache. Having consumed our pies, we quickly found and logged our find.

We then drove on to Vivenhoe Dam and visited the interprative centre where we were able to obtain details about the construction of the Dam and how the Dam not only provides a water supply to SE Queensland but alos is used to mitigate flooding.

Once we had viewed all the displays we commenced the drive back to Arana Hills, having to again go up and down Mount Glorious Road.

We returned around 4.30pm.

We decided to have Chinese take-away again, from the local shop down the hill.

6 July 2010

It was good to sleep in this morning after our travels over the past three days.

Once up and dressed we decided to find some local geocaches. Our results were not that good. We found three and didn't find three, so overall a 50% record.

In the afternoon we lounged around where we were staying.

Overall a very uneventful day.

5 July 2010

Once again we were up early and packed by 8.00am.

We ordered Bacon & Egg McMuffin meal deals from McDonalds for breakfast and ate breakfast in a park on the outskirts of town.

The drive from Moree to Goondawindi was very flat and was as bad as driving across the Hay Plains.

We stopped in Goondawindi to call the plumber back home as we had a blockage in our pipes. Having done this, we were on our way to Toowomba where we bought some pies for lunch.

The road out of Toowomba was very steep for a few kilometres, after which the highway beckoned and we pulled over into a little park where we ate our pies.

Once lunch was finished with, we drove on and arrived at our destination in Arana Hills around 3.00pm local time.

4 July 2010

We woke earky as our destination today was Moree.

The cabin we had was clean and tidy. We supplied our own linen and quickly packed up the blanket, quilt cover and pillows.

We then all showered and left the Caravan Park by 8.30am.

There was very dense fog for most of the morning which made driving a little more difficult as more concentration was needed.

We stopped a twice before luch at Dubbo to log two geocaches.

We bought some pies from the Dubbo Bakery for lunch and proceeded to a rest area just out of town where we ate the pies.

As we travelled further up the highway we logged a few more caches before arriving at Coonabarabran where we had to turn off to go to Narabri and Moree.

We filled up at Narrabri around 5.00pm and reached our destination in Moree around 6.30pm.

Unfortunately the cabin we were booked into was no where near as nice as that in West Wyalong and to rub salt in the wound, cost more. As we were tired we made the best of it.

We went up the main street and bought Chinese take-away which we took back to our cabin.

3 July 2010

We left the Riverland around 9.00am hoping to may West Wyalong by nightfall.

The drive way rather uneventful. We stopped along the way to log two finds on geocaches placed near the highway. Whilst there were a number of other geocaches just off the highway, we did not have time to log these.

About mid morning a bird hit the windscreen and we were fortunate not to have the windscreen crack or break.

We eventually pulled into West Wyalong around 5.45pm and entered the Caravan Park where we had earlier booked a cabin for the night.
